Resident Protection: Internet Mail -
Redirect
This page makes it possible to set up transparent e-mail
scanning. This feature is available on NT-based operating systems
only (Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008). The communication on the
redirected ports will be sent to ALWIL Antivirus (i.e. it will be scanned
for viruses).
- Redirected ports. Enter the port numbers for common
e-mail protocols here. By default, ALWIL Antivirus uses the standard port
numbers for the four basic e-mail protocols. If you use a different
port (or more ports), write its number into the corresponding box.
Multiple values should be separated by commas.
- POP. Port number for incoming e-mail. The standard port
is 110.
- SMTP. Port number for outgoing e-mail. The standard port
is 25.
- IMAP. IMAP port number. The standard port is
143.
- NNTP. Port number for incoming/outgoing news. The
standard port is 119.
- Ignored addresses. Here you can enter the addresses of
mail servers that you want to exclude from ALWIL Antivirus scanning. You can
also enter a specific port that should be ignored. This feature may
be useful when you want ALWIL Antivirus to scan only messages from a
particular account (and ignore the rest). If you enter e.g.
smtp.server.com, ALWIL Antivirus will not scan the outgoing (SMTP)
messages for the corresponding account.
- Ignore local communication. This option should be kept
on. If you disable it, ALWIL Antivirus will scan even local communication
(which is usually safe) - so it may slow down your computer
slightly.
Note: Do not enter any other port number that those you
really use for e-mail traffic. Otherwise, unexpected problems might
occur (time-outs, etc.).
